New Democrat MP Judy Wasylycia-Leis introduced Bill C-393 to streamline CAMR to make it useable and allow life-saving generic drugs to be shipped to developing countries.

Olivia Chow and the New Democrats are calling on the Conservatives and Liberals to prove their commitment to the health of those in developing countries by taking action to support this bill.

As Canada welcomes the G8 and G20 member nations, long overdue attention will be focused on maternal health and decreasing the mortality rates of mothers and infants in developing countries. As we think about mothers abroad, we also need to address the lack of affordable, universal child care here at home.

In preparation for the G8 summit, the Conservative government proposed a maternal health initiative for developing countries. Their incredibly ideological proposal did not allow for family planning and safe access to abortion, important tools that have been proven to save lives. More than 300,000 women around the world die during childbirth or from pregnancy-related complications [...]

  Olivia Chow and the New Democrat team are urging other party leaders to put partisan politics aside and make the welfare of Canadian women and children a priority in the next session of Parliament.
