The Simplified Passport Renewal Process
The simplified passport renewal process is an opportunity for Canadian citizens to replace their passport without having to start from scratch.
Applicants will be required to submit a shorter application form (2 pages instead of 3), along with two new photos, the application fee and their last passport.
Canadians who meet the following eligibility criteria are now able to benefit from this process:
- They must be residing in Canada at the time they apply and must have been residing in Canada at the time of their previous application.
- They were 16 years old or over at the time of their previous application.
- Their previous passport:
- Must have been valid for five years.
- Must have been issued after January 31, 2002.
- Must still be valid or expired less than 12 months ago.
- Was never damaged or reported as lost or stolen.
- Must have been issued under their current name.

Guarantor Policy
On October 1, 2007, Passport Canada’s new guarantor policy came into effect. This new policy allows most Canadian adult passport holders residing in Canada or the U.S. to act as guarantors. In addition, any family member may act as guarantor as well as any individual residing at the applicant’s address provided he or she meets specified requirements.
