Get Canada Moving with a National Transit Strategy

Federal Support Needed to Make Rapid, Accessible Transit a Reality in Canada

Across Canada commuters are tired of being stuck in traffic or waiting for overcrowded buses, subways and streetcars. Congestion is costing us billions of dollars in economic damages every year. It is clear that our over-burdened cities and communities can’t solve the problem on their own – the federal government needs to step up its game and show some leadership.

Current federal support for transit is close to zero. No wonder – Canada is the only G7 country without a national policy framework for transit. With a National Transit Strategy, long-term planning and stable funding would finally become a reality through coordination between all levels of government.

Olivia’s National Transit Strategy bill will:

  • set up a permanent investment plan for public transit;
  • establish a clear federal funding mechanisms for public transit;
  • bring all levels of government together to provide sustainable, predictable, long term and adequate funding; and
  • establish accountability measures to ensure that all governments work together to increase access to public transit.

Canadians deserve fast, reliable, affordable and accessible public transit. The National Transit Strategy is the right step towards this goal. Make better transit a reality and join the campaign!
