What do Susur Lee, Il Fornello, Toronto Board of Health and FoodShare have in common? They all support Olivia Chow’s Children’s Health and Nutrition Initiative. It calls for a nutritious breakfast, snack or lunch to be provided to any Canadian child under 18 years of age. The second component of the Initiative calls for innovative [...]

Our children are fatter and sicker than previous generations. What can we do to ensure every Canadian has access to healthy food? Olivia and the New Democrats have ideas for a comprehensive food strategy: • Enact legislation that will require that food be properly labelled with information on its origin, its nutritional value and whether [...]

MP Olivia Chow, New Democrats Child Care Critic, is calling on Stephen Harper’s Conservatives to establish and fund a national child care program, in the wake of the recent tragic death of a child while in unregulated care.  Chow pointed out that with long waiting lists for affordable, high quality and licensed early learning and [...]

Canada just celebrated National Child Day. Twenty-one years ago this coming Wednesday, Parliament promised to make child poverty history.

Olivia has repeatedly called on the government to implement a national childhood nutrition policy that would provide at least one healthy meal to all children under 18 every day. Last month Olivia spoke to a conference on public health and nutrition which was presented by the Centre for Science in the Public Interest with child nutrition and general health experts.
