When will the government stop ignoring the needs of Canadian children?
Numerous studies have shown that the number of obese children is steadily increasing. Olivia has repeatedly called on the government to implement a national childhood nutrition policy that would provide at least one healthy meal to all children under 18 every day. Last month Olivia spoke to a conference on public health and nutrition which was presented by the Centre for Science in the Public Interest with child nutrition and general health experts.

As Canada welcomes the G8 and G20 member nations, long overdue attention will be focused on maternal health and decreasing the mortality rates of mothers and infants in developing countries. As we think about mothers abroad, we also need to address the lack of affordable, universal child care here at home.
