Demand fair compensation for Torontonians
Lawrence Cannon, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, has refused to commit to compensating downtown small businesses and home owners for damage caused by the G20. When Olivia Chow stood up during Question Period and asked why the Government was leaving Torontonians high and dry, the Minister simply stated that the Government is “not legally bound to pay compensation”.
While the Government may not be legally bound to compensate Torontonians, they most certainly are morally bound to cover the damages to our homes and businesses caused by their summit.
The Government has sunk over a billion dollars into gazebos and fake lakes for this summit, but refuses to commit even a penny –of our own tax dollars–to the real people affected by the G20.
All the major Mayoral candidates have signed a letter demanding fair compensation for Torontonians. Join them in calling for fairness for Toronto.
