Free Film Showing – Pipe Dreams
Bloor Cinema Sold Out for Tar Sands Documentaries Hosted by Olivia Chow
October 11, 2012
TORONTO – Torontonians are concerned about tar sands pipelines and they want to take action. That was the consensus at a free showing of the documentaries ‘Pipe Dream’ and ‘The Pipedreams Project’ about the controversial Keystone XL and Enbridge Northern Gateway pipelines.
The two films were followed by a vivid discussion on the tar sands and dangerous pipeline projects by MP Olivia Chow, Greenpeace Canada, Environmental Defence and Pipe Dreams filmmaker Leslie Iwerks.
The audience and panel agreed: Torontonians need to speak out. And it’s not just about a pristine coastline in British Columbia. Enbridge is proposing to re-use an existing pipeline that runs through the GTA for tar sands sludge (“Line 9″).
A broad coalition of groups is planning a massive sit-in against the Northern Gateway pipeline on Monday, October 22. Participants agreed to mirror and support the sit-in with a protest on Sunday, October 21 – details to follow.
