Toronto Pride: Weekend of Celebrations and Memories
Pride Parade Draws NDP Crowd, Honours LGBT Ally Jack Layton
July 1, 2012
TORONTO – This year’s Pride Parade drew ten-thousands of activists and celebrators in sizzling temperatures. Among the participants were MP Olivia Chow, NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair and other New Democrats. In addition to celebrating Toronto’s diverse LGBT community, demonstrators honoured long-time ally and equality advocate Jack Layton.
The creative commemoration of the late community leader and NDP politician featured a multitude of cut-out mustaches in the shape of Jack Layton’s trademark facial hair.
While the Pride Parade serves as a rallying point to celebrate champions and accomplishments, MP Olivia Chow underscored the need for further action to achieve full equality in Canada and to end discrimination – here and abroad.
