Defend effective public services. Protect the long form census.
Once every five years, Canadians are asked to take a few minutes out of their busy lives to fill out a census form. A small percentage of Canadians are required to submit a longer version of the census.
This long form census provides vital information which is used to help all levels of government develop policies and programs to address issues ranging from public transit, affordable housing and health care services.
Unfortunately, Industry Minister Tony Clement wants to scrap the mandatory long form census.
This ideologically driven decision means your government won’t have the information it needs to effectively administer the public services you and your family depend on.
To make matters worse, the proposed changes will cost Canadians an additional $30 million.
Earlier this week, Statistics Canada’s Chief Statistician resigned in protest to the proposed changes to the census. Join him in voicing your opposition to this ideological decision.
