Em 1990 Amália Rodrigues, a “Rainha do Fado” celebrou 50 anos de carreira artistica com uma espectacular digressão mundial. O concerto final desta série teve lugar em Nova York, no famoso auditório New York City Town Hall.

A popularidade de Amalia, o seu talento como cantora, e a sua escolha de temas, foram instrumentais na divulgaçã do Fado através do mundo. Por vezes comparado com os “Blues” o fado é também caracterizado pelos temas da saudade e da tristeza. Amália Rodrigues abriu as portas aos muitos fadistas que a seguiram.

“Amália, Live in New York City”
In 1990, Amália Rodrigues, the beloved “Rainha do Fado” (Queen of Fado) celebrated her 50th anniversary as a performer with a spectacular world tour.  The final concert in this tour was her magnificent performance at New York City Town Hall.

Rodrigues’ remarkable talent as a singer and choice of songs were instrumental in popularizing Fado, Portugal’s most famous music, throughout the world.  Sometimes compared to the blues, Fado is characterized by themes of longing and sadness.  Rodrigues undoubtedly paved the way for the many Fadistas who have come after her.
